Jolanda Olie {Candyskul} lives in Utrecht, the
Netherlands. Her intent is ‘to make art like candy, sugarly sweet with this
sense of hypersentimentality.’ Her work embraces the typical Japanese
combination of kawaii and darkness, as it revels in the sinister and dreamy
culture of the gothic and kawaii Lolitas whose doll-like appearances reflect
the dream to be a child forever.

Her latest work is focusing more on portraits
and fashion illustration, based on subcultures. Hybridness, eclecticism and
intense cuteness are still main themes. Her surrealistic, powder-colored
portraits of hybrid creatures reflect fragility and power at the same time. Jolanda
is inspired by the Elegant gothic lolita style, japanese pop music and movies,
comics, rococo style and memories of her childhood.
